The Antiquarian Booksellers Association is delighted to announce the very positive results of the 21st Antiquarian Chelsea Book Fair from 4 to 5th November 2011 at the Chelsea Old Town Hall in London. With overall sales of £376,000, the average sales showed an increase of more than 7% on last year. Sales to private clients over the two days of the fair were up by 30%. In these times of economic uncertainty, this is a very encouraging result for the trade and emphasises the importance of book fairs as a selling platform for dealers. The fair is a fixture in the calendar for book collectors, trade (UK trade and visiting trade from Europe and overseas) and also many local residents. The organisers were very pleased about the excellent attendance with visitor numbers up on 2010. Saturday was a busier day than in previous years with higher visitor numbers and sales to private clients up by over 50%. Sales seemed more generally spread out and most exhibitors seem to have enjoyed the fair thoroughly. Dealers have uploaded many interesting highlights to the website the weeks before the fair. Exhibitor Steve Liddle: “I did quite well with visiting trade, books and prints equally. The whole event runs like clockwork, is a joy to participate in and, for some of us, has a lively social side (I'm very good at that bit!). Like book fairs used to be!” The 2011 Special Exhibition “New Impressions”, featuring art-works relating to antiquarian and Fair Chairman Leo Cadogan: “I am very pleased with the 2011 Chelsea fair, as chairman as well as exhibitor. I know that the majority of exhibitors will be there again next year and we will continue to make this fair an unmissable event with loyal as well as new clients for our participating dealers.” Press Contact & Images:
