"John entered the book world upon leaving the R.A.F. in 1958, when he purchased a small but well-established business. I met him in 1959, and helped out in my spare time and upon our marriage in 1961 entered bookselling full time. At that time we were selling all types of books, from paperbacks to first edition Dickens.

My father was keen on shooting and was helping friends at the CLA Game Fair and as we were at a loose end, John and I decided to visit the Game Fair ourselves. This chance outing changed the whole direction of our business as in 1962 we decided to specialise in antiquarian books on Field Sports. After exhibiting at the Game Fair and the leading Horse Shows, we opened at 88 Crane Street in 1971. During the next few years we continued to exhibit at leading Horse Shows, Sporting conventions and book fairs throughout the world.

Although we still cover field sports the emphasis in recent years has focused on angling and we have helped a number of collectors to build their libraries and handled some well-known important collections.

Yours sincerely, Judith Head".

Fairs and events

It is a good thing to read books, and need not be a bad thing to write them, but in any case, it is a pious thing to collect them.
