CHURCHILL (Sir Winston, 1874-1965).Fine Document Signed by King George V (George R.I. at head of first page) & Churchill (Winston S. Churchill at end), being a Royal Licence, granting Geoffrey Parker permission to accept & wear the Insignia of the Fourth Class of the Imperial Ottoman Order of the Medjidieh. Printed, with manuscript insertions, 3 pages folio, Sandringham, January 14, 1911, impressed royal seal, docketed, horizontal folds, very lightly soiled, in excellent condition.

"Whereas His Highness the Khedive of Egypt, authorized by His Imperial Majesty the Sultan of Turkey, has been pleased to confer upon you the Insignia of the Fourth Class of the Imperial Ottoman Order of the Medjidieh, in recognition of valuable services rendered by you: And We being Graciously Pleased to approve thereof..."

 

Churchill signs this handsome document as Home Secretary. The King signs in the first year of his reign. Royal permission is required for the wearing of foreign orders & decorations. Parker was being rewarded for his services as Inspector of Irrigation in Egypt.
