BOOK SECURITY PROCEDURES.
When you wish to report a lost or stolen book, please adopt the following procedure. Send an email to the office with the following details: (note that it should be an email ideally, or otherwise a type written fax – this will help to minimise errors in transcription which can make a big difference!)
The full details of the book, publication date, illustrations, value etc.
The date of the loss / theft if known, or nearest estimate
Any knowledge or details of the theft
Your full contact details (or the owner’s full contact details)
And finally, but most importantly,
The crime reference number. Having this number will enable other dealers to dial 999 with confidence if they are offered stolen property, leading to a quick response and, it is to be hoped, arrest at the scene. Not having this number slows the entire process down for everyone and complicates administration in the ABA office.
