Conservation Register
The Conservation Register was first set up in 1988 by the Museums & Galleries Commission as a selective database of conservation-restoration practices from across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Register holds the details of practices working in a variety of specialisms, all of which have had to meet specified criteria in order to be included. The information on each practice is reviewed every two years to ensure that it continues to meet the criteria. It is also updated in response to information provided voluntarily by the practices in order to remain as up to date as possible. The register is now available online at http://www.conservationregister.com/for the use of all those seeking professional conservation expertise and advice. The website can be searched free of charge by specialist skill and geographical location to provide detailed information on those conservation-restoration practices meeting the Register’s criteria for inclusion. In addition, a range of factsheets on ‘Caring for..’ different possessions and guidelines on choosing and working with a conservator are available. It is hoped that ABA members will find the site of use.
