Collecting Private Press Books

Collecting Private Press Books
The twenty-fifth seminar in the book-collecting series organised jointly by the Institute of English Studies (London University) and the Rare Book Society was given by David Chambers.

David Chambers is one of the foremost collectors in the field of private press books and has published books and articles on a wide range of related subjects. Since 1979 he has edited, or co-edited, The Private Library, the quarterly journal of the Private Libraries Association, a society of which he has been Chairman since the 1970s. As a printer himself, he has operated the Cuckoo Hill Press since the late 1950s, printing a number of significant illustrated books over that time.

The seminar took place on Tuesday 8th July 2014 at Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU.

The seminars are aimed at a broad audience including book-collectors, book-dealers, historians of all kinds, librarians, indeed at anyone with an interest in collecting any sort of text from the sixth-former to the retired professor. The atmosphere will be informal, as will the presentations. They are held in the University of London’s Senate House and run from 6.00 to 7.30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month. All are very welcome.
